Macromedia Flash in Firefox 3 on NetBSD
Adobe does not provide a native NetBSD flash player but fortunately there is a work around which makes it possible to use Flash with native Firefox 3 (this also works with Firefox 22.214.171.124).
This is the software used writing this HowTo:
Install Firefox 3.x from pkgsrc:
# cd /usr/pkgsrc/www/firefox3 # make install clean
# cd /usr/pkgsrc/multimedia/ns-flash # make install clean
Configure nspluginwrapper running:
# nspluginwrapper -a
Note : I had to run nspluginwrapper -a as root user and then manually copy /usr/pkg/lib/firefox3/plugins/npwrapper.libflashplayer.so to my ~/.mozilla/plugins dir and chown the file.
Adjust maximum limit of shared memory pages (as user with root privileges):
# sysctl -w kern.ipc.shmmaxpgs=262144
Add kern.ipc.shmmaxpgs=262144 to /etc/sysctl.conf to keep this value across boots.
Finally edit /etc/fstab and add there Linux procfs entry:
procfs /emul/linux/proc procfs rw,linux 0 0
Now start Firefox and type about: plugins and Shockwave Flash should show up.
